When Pride Blocks Deliverance — Letting God Break the Hardness of Our Hearts

ðŸŠī Exodus 10:3–5 Devotional

Scripture (NIV):

3 So Moses and Aaron went to Pharaoh and said to him, “This is what the Lord, the God of the Hebrews, says: ‘How long will you refuse to humble yourself before me? Let my people go, so that they may worship me.’”
4 If you refuse to let them go, I will bring locusts into your country tomorrow.
5 They will cover the face of the ground so that it cannot be seen. They will devour what little you have left…”

✨ When God Confronts Pride

God sends Moses with a bold question to Pharaoh:

“How long will you refuse to humble yourself before Me?”

Pharaoh’s pride was powerful — he loved control, power, and the feeling of being superior. Even after many plagues, he still refused to surrender.

But pride always comes with consequences.

When we elevate ourselves above God’s authority:

• Our vision becomes distorted
• Our hearts grow hardened
• We cling to control while everything crumbles
• We resist the very God who wants to save us

Humility isn’t weakness —
it’s the doorway to freedom.

ðŸŠĻ The Danger of Delayed Obedience

God offered Pharaoh chance after chance to change.

Instead of listening… he waited.
Instead of surrendering… he resisted.
Instead of bowing… he hardened his heart.

Delayed obedience isn’t obedience.
It’s rebellion — softened by excuses.

Many times we know what God is calling us to do:

• Quit a harmful habit
• Walk away from toxic influence
• Forgive someone who hurt us
• Return to church and spiritual discipline
• Say “yes” to His purpose

But like Pharaoh, we often say:

“Not yet.”

The longer we resist, the harder our hearts become.

🊗 Locusts — When God Removes Our False Security

God tells Pharaoh that if he refuses again:

“Locusts will devour what little you have left.”

This is powerful and sobering.

Sometimes God allows a season of loss to expose our pride:

• When we idolize money — finances shake
• When we idolize success — plans collapse
• When we idolize self — we feel helpless
• When we idolize people — they disappoint

God is not being cruel —
He’s removing what we stand on apart from Him.

He allows locusts to eat what pride built…
so humility can rebuild what God blesses.

ðŸŒū Worship Is the Purpose of Liberation

The command was clear:

“Let My people go so that they may worship Me.”

Freedom isn’t just escape —
it’s transformation.

God doesn’t set us free so we can live life on our own terms.
He frees us so we can worship, follow, and serve Him fully.

Every victory God gives is meant to bring glory back to Him.

💎 Reflection Questions

Let these go deep into your heart:

• Is there an area where I’ve been resisting God’s voice?
• Have I been delaying obedience while hoping consequences won’t increase?
• What prideful habit or thought must I surrender to worship freely?
• What “locusts” is God using to get my attention?

Humility says:
“Lord, I trust You more than my control.”

Father, reveal the places in my heart where pride is resisting Your will. Help me surrender quickly and humbly. I don’t want to delay what You desire to do in my life. Remove anything I’m holding onto that is keeping me from true freedom and worship. Break every hard place in my heart and lead me into joyful obedience. In Jesus’ name, Amen. ✨
