Psalm 71:15–16 | Proclaiming God’s Righteousness and Strength

“My mouth will tell of your righteous deeds,
of your saving acts all day long—
though I know not how to relate them all.
I will come and proclaim your mighty acts, Sovereign Lord;
I will proclaim your righteous deeds, yours alone.”

Devotional: Speaking of God’s Faithfulness

Psalm 71 is a song of deep trust written by someone who has walked many years with God and seen His hand through every season. In verses 15–16, the psalmist expresses a heart overflowing with gratitude and testimony. Even though he admits he cannot fully describe all that God has done, he chooses to speak boldly about God’s righteousness and saving power.

This passage reminds us that one of the greatest ways to honor God is through our words — by telling others of His faithfulness. Sometimes we may feel unqualified to share our story because we don’t know every Bible verse or can’t explain theology perfectly. Yet, like the psalmist, we can say, “Though I know not how to relate them all, my mouth will tell of your righteous deeds.”

You don’t need perfect words to testify; you just need a grateful heart. Every answered prayer, every moment of comfort in pain, every time God provided when you saw no way out — those are powerful stories of His righteousness. When you share them, you give hope to others and strengthen your own faith.

The psalmist says, “I will come and proclaim your mighty acts.” Notice the determination — it’s a choice. He doesn’t wait until life is perfect or trouble-free. Even amid aging, opposition, and weariness (themes found throughout Psalm 71), he still chooses to lift his voice. This teaches us that praise is not dependent on circumstances but on perspective.

When we focus on God’s character instead of our challenges, our speech becomes filled with faith. The more we speak of His goodness, the more our hearts are reminded that He is still at work.

💡 Reflection Thought:

There will always be more to thank God for than words can express. The goal isn’t to capture it all but to start speaking. Each time you testify, you declare to the world — and to your own heart — that God is good, righteous, and worthy of trust.

In verse 16, the psalmist says,

“I will come and proclaim your mighty acts, Sovereign Lord; I will proclaim your righteous deeds, yours alone.”

This verse reveals not only gratitude but bold dependence. The writer doesn’t speak from personal strength or wisdom; he speaks from what he has experienced of God. His testimony isn’t self-centered — it points entirely to the righteousness of God.

When he says, “yours alone,” he acknowledges that all good, all victory, and all power belong to the Lord. That phrase separates human pride from divine glory. It’s as if he is saying, “Everything I have accomplished, every deliverance I’ve seen, comes from You, Lord.”

In our lives, it’s easy to forget that truth. When we succeed, we may silently take the credit. When we overcome challenges, we might think our hard work was enough. But Psalm 71 reminds us that our confidence comes from God’s faithfulness, not our own ability. He is the source of our wisdom, our provision, and our strength to stand.

There’s also courage in this verse. The psalmist declares, “I will come.” That’s an intentional step forward — an act of public faith. He is determined to keep proclaiming even if others doubt, even if his voice shakes, even if the world ignores him.

For believers today, this is a call to bold witness. We are not called to stay silent about what God has done; we are called to share it with love and humility. Whether through our words, our actions, or the way we live, we can make God’s faithfulness visible.

Reflection:

Every believer has a testimony worth sharing. You don’t need a perfect past to proclaim a perfect God. Your story — of struggle, redemption, and grace — becomes a light for someone else’s darkness.

Ask yourself today:

  • What has God done for me that I can tell others about?

  • Am I using my words to glorify Him or to magnify my worries?

  • How can I let my daily life speak of His righteousness?

🙏 Prayer:

Lord, thank You for Your mighty acts in my life. Give me courage to speak of Your faithfulness and grace, even when words fall short. Let my life be a living testimony of Your righteousness, and help me remember that every good thing comes from You alone. May my mouth always tell of Your saving power. Amen.
